    Zhang Yimou's "To Live" lost the Palme d'Or but won the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actor Award. Ge You became the first Chinese to win best actor at Cannes.

    Zhang Yimou's "Shanghai Triad" won the Technical Grand Prize. "Good Men, Good Women" by Hou Hsiao-Hsien was shown as part of the competition section.
