Xie, Party chief of Central China's Henan province, eyes the internet's role in propelling innovation and shifting modes of economic development.

The popularity of smartphones has helped people to log on to the internet much easily. He said he usually connects with his family members through the messaging service WeChat.

When he became Henan's governor in 2013, he once spent 20 minutes sharing an article posted by Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, on Wechat with other officials. Xie pointed to the internet's role in innovation and economic transformation.
