Around 4:50 a.m.on Monday, after more than seven hours of hard work, rescue workers from China's armed transportation police forces managed to excavate the deepest and most complicated area of wreckage from the recent landslide in Shenzhen. The area is in Taiyu Industrial Park in the Guangming New Area of south China's Guangdong province.

At the site, they found cash and checks together worth nearly two million yuan, excavated from where a plant was suddenly buried.

Currently, more than 380 technical personnel specializing in rescue work and 190 sets of high-end equipment are involved in this rescue operation, according to Fu Ling, chief commander of the rescue teams on the site.

Around 3 a.m on Monday, rescue workers reported that they had discovered a gas canister and metal cases. Under guidance from Xi Hui, head of the on-site rescue team, Cao Lang operated an excavator in the rain to dig out the canister.

Fifty minutes later, the rescue workers excavated three damaged safe deposit boxes that contained large amounts of cash and checks. The rescue workers removed the money from the boxes and wrapped it in raincoats to protect it from the mud and rain. Meanwhile, they reported their discovery to the headquarters of the rescue operation. After dawn, public security officers contacted the proprietor of the plant, who was also the owner of the boxes.(Photo/81.cn)
