Tulou in the western and southern mountains of southeastern China's Fujian Province is famous throughout the world for its unique architectural style and long history.

Tulou could date back to the Song and Yuan Dynasty of ancient China. It gradually matured through the development of three periods of Ming and early Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China; it remains alive today and becomes the unparalleled large rammed earth houses in the world.

Taking advantage of the narrow flat ground and local building materials such as raw soil, wood, cobblestones, Fujian Tulou is economical, sturdy, durable, defensive and highly aesthetic. Absorbing the 'feng shui' concept (geomantic theory) of traditional Chinese architectural planning, its rational layout provides a comfortable environment for people to live together.
