According Cankaoxiaoxi.com, German website Die Welt forecasts that China soon will be the third largest country for plastic surgeries based on the data from Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics (CAPA). In 2014, Chinese surgeons performed 7 million cosmetic surgeries, and most of the patients were women.

A sociologist in Hong Kong points out that young people are so into cosmetic surgeries because they mainly want to increase their “beauty asset”. There are still discriminations in age, sex, and height at the job market. More and more graduates flock into the job market every year. Having good looks is very important if one wants to stand out from so many competitors.

According to CAPA, the number of Chinese people going to South Korea for plastic surgeries reached 56,000 in 2014. Suzhou Daily randomly picked 207 students from three colleges in Beijing, Tianjin, and Nanjing for a quick survey. Over 16 percent of them want to have cosmetic surgeries, 191 of them believe that a better look will be able to win over more opportunities both in study and in career.
