Twelve volunteers chosen from around the world have begun their one-month caring work for pandas in southwest China's Sichuan province.

"It was so cute, I've never seen a panda that young before, so cute, it was amazing, I love it,"

At the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, volunteers get up around 5am on their first day, putting on insulation garments and gloves.

An important aspect of the volunteers' workload is keeping the pandas' habitat clean. They clean up faeces and dried bamboo left on the ground, and bring in fresh stocks of bamboo when necessary.

The panda breeder says it's important to simulate the wild living environment.

After the first day of work, the twelve volunteers also visited the world's first panda twins born this year.
