    Botín in Madrid, Spain was declared the "oldest restaurant" by The Guinness Book of World Records. Although it was built in 1725, a vast amount of documentation contributed to the Guinness decision. Botín has been celebrated in the works of writers such as Hemingway, Fredrick Forsyth, and James Michener for its palatial Spanish style and rich history. Roast suckling pig, roast lamb, and eels are the perennnial specialties of this restaurant. Rumors has it that the renowned Spanish painter Goya was once a waiter at Botín.
