    Inspiration came from Chinese idiom

Fu’s design is a ceramic dish with slanted base. When you fill it to the top, you have in fact a recommended portion size for your food. Needing no "fill up to here" mark on the side of the bowl, you can enjoy your meals and avoid wasting food at the same time.

Fu Yijia says that the inspiration for her "Belly Bowl" came from Chinese idiom The eyes are bigger than the stomach. "When I am tired, extremely hungry or in a hurry, I always end up piling my plate high, then I realise that I cannot eat everything. Either I throw the leftovers out or I finish everything and end up overeating," says Fu.

According to Fu, the "Belly Bowl"was her graduation project, completed in October last year. She did not expect it to attract so much interest. But the stories in the media changed all that.

Edinburgh Napier Product Design lecturer Ruth Cochrane thinks highly of the design produced by Fu Yijia, who calls herself 'Cassie' in English, and says that she has produced a new idea to resolve a growing health problem. To Fu Yijia's surprise, the "Belly Bowl" has now gone viral on Chinese social media.
