Chinese man inherits intangible cultural heritage, makes figurines with dough

A man in Xi’an, northwestern China’s Shaanxi province, is making a name for himself by combining the intangible cultural heritage of traditional Chinese dough modeling with modern animation.

Zhang Peiyuan, who is 33 years old, can shape a head out of dough in less than 50 seconds. His skills enable him to carve figurines as small as a mung bean, and as large as a real person. The biggest model he ever carved was 1.5 meters in height, requiring 19 kilograms of flour.
