    Tibetans celebrate New Year

The Tibetan New Year, also known as Losar, is the most important festival on the Tibetan calendar. This year, the special occasion fell on Feb. 27. Teachers made piping hot dumplings to celebrate the festival in a children's welfare home in Tibet Autonomous Region, and a festive atmosphere pervaded the snow-capped plateau.

Losar is celebrated for 15 days, with the main celebrations occurring during the first three days in accordance with Tibetan customs. Singing, dancing and costume shows highlight traditional Tibetan culture.
