    Festival of Toilsome Slaves

Recently, Hani villagers of Mengxian Town of Ning’er County in Pu’er City celebrated the annual “Festival of Toilsome Slaves”, whose bustling scenes were praised by tourists.

Every year, on June 24 on the Lunar Calendar is the “Festival of Toilsome Slaves” for Hani people. It is also called “New Rice Festival,” a grand festival for the Hani people. During the festival, hospitable Hani people don themselves with holiday clothes and sing folk songs to welcome guests from afar. Some Hani girls perform drum dance, dance with bamboo baskets and horsehead dance, while others hold branches from cypresses and sing the Welcome Song together to treat guests to a dinner on their arrival.
