Exotic animals imported into China for the first time. A Beijing company has imported 100 Mali Uromastyx lizards, 70 Peacock and Spiny-tailed Monitors, and 20 African Spurred Tortoises.

The animals are still under quarantine inspection.

According to the company, the Uromastyx is a kind of docile lizard that tends to approach its owner. The tortoise can be sold for thousands of yuan each.

The animals were imported for the company's reproduction research. They will consider putting reptiles into the pet market after they succeed in breeding the species.
