    (Xinhua)    15:20, April 05, 2016

URUMQI, April 5 -- Two more bodies were retrieved Monday night from the site of a coal-mine tunnel collapse on Sunday in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, bringing the total number of fatalities to five, local authorities said Tuesday.

    Five people remain trapped.

In total, 19 people were working underground at Tianli Coal Mine when the tunnel collapsed at around 2:50 p.m. on Sunday in Shache County, the regional coal mine safety inspection authority said.

Eight people escaped unharmed, one sustained injuries, and the rescue mission continues, it added.

The chief engineer, head, and other authority figures are in police custody.

The mine is about 110 km from the county seat of Shache.
