President Xi Jinping's first state visit to the United States will be a journey of communication, cooperation and friendship, and will surely become a new milestone in the China-U.S. relationship.

President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from Sept. 22 to 25 at the invitation of President Barack Obama. This visit is not only closely related with the future trend of the China-US relationship, but will exert a profound influence on international structure and regional situation. It will surely inject new impetus into the building of a new type major country relationship between China and US.

How to build a new type of major country relationship and avoid the "Thucydides Trap" is the common task faced by both China and the U.S.

To build a new type of major country relationship needs perseverance and composure.

We should accelerate the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) negotiations to promote China-U.S. economic and trade relationship. We should deepen the dialogue between the two armies, improve the mechanism of communication and cooperation to promote China-U.S. military relations. We should jointly combat terrorism in all forms and maintain world peace. We should exert respective advantages and work together to tackle the global challenge of climate change. We should enhance communication and coordination on major international and regional issues and make more contributions to the world's peace, stability and prosperity.

"For a grander view, one must mount for a greater height." The China-U.S. relationship is now at an important point which inherits the past and forges ahead into the future. People of vision in the two countries should adopt a long-term perspective and work together to promote the building of the new type of major country relationship. I believe that President Xi Jinping's first state visit to the U.S. will be a journey of communication, cooperation and friendship, and will surely become a new milestone in the China-U.S. relationship.
