The Paddington Reservoir in Sydney: Perfect Blend of History and Modernity

SYDNEY, Sep 15 - The Paddington Reservoir was a water supply to parts of Sydney in 19th century. In 2006 it was changed into a sunken garden and reopened as the Paddington Reservoir Gardens in 2009.

Going through the garden gate and wide stairs, there are plenty of spots to sit and have a rest. The roof-top features the garden with vibrant graffiti art around the chamber. Lights transform the space over time during the daytime.

The reservoir was constructed for supplying water in 1899 and has been through a couple of uses, including a garage and a petrol station.

The site has restored some of the reservoir’s original framework, and re-designed the space in a new way. Original brick, timber and iron fixtures were all kept and built with contemporary elements. It is a perfect blend of old and new. It is now state heritage-listed.
