China opens first trade platform to facilitate overseas cultural relics’ return

    Email|Print

A special platform has been established in China to facilitate the reclaiming and trade of overseas cultural relics, according to a report in People's Daily on July 2.

Working as a "green passage," the platform will provide services including relic identification, preservation, storage and delivery. China's museums, state-owned antique shops and private collectors can use the platform to purchase or retrieve lost cultural relics overseas.

At least 10 million Chinese artifacts were illegally transported overseas in the past centuries. Due to historical and market restrictions, many Chinese cultural relics abroad were prohibited from entering into circulation or from being traded in the market.

The establishment of the new platform will make it easier and safer for Chinese overseas cultural relics to come back home.
