China-made subway trains for the 2016 Olympic Games, developed by China CNR Corporation Limited, were put in service in Rio de Janeiro on June 10, 2015. The trains will go straight to Rio's Olympic Village in the first half of next year, becoming the first Chinese railway transportation equipment to serve the Olympic Games overseas.

Carlos·Osorio, chairman of Rio's Transport Department, indicated that the subway trains will contribute to local transportation capability and upgrade of subway trains.

Made of 'Type A' stainless steels, the subway train capable of carrying 2,240 people can run at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour. To deal with Rio's hot weather, the train is equipped with "super" air conditioning system, which can keep the temperature in the train between 20 and 30 degrees centigrade even though the outside temperature is 50 degrees centigrade.
