Participants must catch a fish with a handheld net and drop it through a mini-basketball hoop

The football helmets are not part of the gag, as at least one rider took a fish to the head

Once a fish is caught, the person must drop it through a mini-basketball hoop and into a bin.

At one point, a man tells the camera: ‘We’ve merged water sports with ball sports and mixed it up with fishing. I know, let’s call it skarping. This could become the next Olympic sport.’

Using their pimped-up aluminium pontoon boat, they offer bowfishing tours on the Illinois River, near Peoria.

Asian carp are an invasive species in North America; they can weigh 40lbs and leap 10ft into the air

They say the fish – which have been deemed a destructive invasive species in North America – leap from the water due to the vibration from the boat and water turbulence.

Some weigh more than 40lbs, and they have been known to leap 10ft into the air.

But the video comes with a warning, as its creators urge people not to go skarping without proper safety equipment and knowledge of the waters they are operating in.
