HK college graduates from Mainland like to start their own business

In Hong Kong, there is a group of young people: they come from Mainland China, they go to colleges like HKU, CUHK, City U, and HKUST; they give up the opportunity of a good job with a foreign company; instead, they choose to start their own business in Hong Kong.

Do not forget why you started

"There many ways of joining 'the elite'. You can be an executive in a foreign company, but you can equally start your own business." says Huang Wenjing, the founder of the "Makeup Gallery" mobile application. "Your parents might be concerned at first, but I talked to mine, and showed them my achievements and abilities - now they are starting to understand me better."

"Young people should be able to say 'No' to traditional ways." So says Zhu Tong, the owner of "Sticky House". Having his own business has been his dream since he was little.

Wang Yizhou from "iRent" group and Han Liang of "Chang'an Taste" thought long and hard before taking the decision to start up their own business. Although the thought of becoming a senior executive in a big company seemed to offer respectability and prosperity, such occupations offer a very "fixed track". It is sometimes necessary to sacrifice ones own indivduality to get ahead. "But we hope we can do the things we want to do while we are still young. We want to try out our own ideas instead of being told what to do," says Wang Yizhou.
