BERLIN, March 24-- German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that she would travel on Wednesday to the crash site of Germanwings flight 4U9525.

German budget airline Germanwings confirmed Tuesday that its flight 4U9525 had an "accident" over French Alps.

While addressing the media in her Chancellery, Merkel expressed sorrow and sympathy over the accident. She said Germany, France and Spain would work together to find the causes of the crash.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt are on the way to the site of the accident, according to Merkel.

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said earlier on Tuesday that Merkel was deeply shocked by the plane crash, and had already made phone calls with French President Francois Hollande and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

The chancellor has canceled other appointments and would keep informed on the latest development of the accident, according to the spokesman.
