Kang Kai is proud to be one of the first female fighter pilots with double degrees. In 2008, she was among the 33 girls selected from more than 150,000 senior high school students as a potential pilot. After a rigid training regime, she became one of the ten female fighter pilots in the People's Liberation Army air force.
On her first solo flight, Kang Kai encountered an unexpected complication.
During a midnight drill last summer, after the completion of the specified flight legs, Kang Kai found that her compass had stopped working. She immediately reported the problem to the tower commanders while she continued flying. At 500 meters altitude, she started the emergency compass and landed smoothly by following the runway lights. Her calm won praise from the head of the tower
At the beginning of 2015, Kang Kai's goal is to win the "Gold Helmet" - the champion pilot's trophy.
