| With a land area of 2.6 square kilometers, Yongxing Island is the biggest island among the Xisha Islands and the third biggest in South China Sea. It serves as the military, political and cultural center of the Xisha Islands, Nansha Islands and Zhongsha Islands. China officially set up the city of Sansha on Yongxing Island in the southernmost province of Hainan in July 2012.
