BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- China stands ready to provide help in light of Afghanistan's needs, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan killing at least 24 people.
Spokesperson Mao Ning told a daily news briefing that China is following the disaster in Afghanistan, and deeply mourns for the lives lost in the earthquake.
"Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and the injured. We believe that under the leadership of the Afghan government, the Afghan people will recover and rebuild from the disaster," Mao said.
