Most of China's food parcels delivered to Gaza: Jordanian charity
AMMAN, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Most of the 60,000 food parcels provided by China earlier this year have been delivered to the Gaza Strip via Jordan despite months of restrictions and obstacles, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) said on Tuesday.
Hussein Shibli, secretary-general of the JHCO, told Xinhua that about 55,000 parcels have so far reached Gaza, with the remaining shipments expected to be dispatched in the coming days.
Shibli expressed gratitude to China for its support, noting that the Chinese government has provided about 2 million U.S. dollars in food supplies for Gaza in 2025. "We will continue to do our best to facilitate the arrival of this aid provided by China," he said.
The assistance is China's emergency humanitarian relief handed over to JHCO in February, when the Chinese embassy in Jordan and the JHCO launched the first convoy of 12,000 parcels.
According to Shibli, humanitarian convoys to Gaza face many challenges, including restrictions on the quantity and type of supplies, lengthy inspections and delays at border crossings, and harassment by Israeli settlers. "There are many difficulties in delivering aid, even after entering Gaza, where distribution itself is a challenge," he said.
He noted that the Gaza Strip's needs far exceed current deliveries. "Gaza requires about 500 trucks of basic supplies per day, but we are only able to send between 150 and 180 trucks per week," he said.
After the first Chinese aid parcels were sent in February, about 30 percent reached Gaza before the start of Ramadan. In March, Israel announced a ban on humanitarian deliveries from neighboring countries, forcing convoys to halt until limited entry was allowed again in July.
