Chinese Embassy in Lesotho celebrates 76th founding anniversary of PRC
MASERU, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Lesotho hosted a reception on Monday in Maseru, the southern African country's capital, to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which falls on Oct. 1.
In his welcoming speech, Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho Yang Xiaokun highlighted the growing ties between China and Lesotho, noting that the bilateral relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit last September.
He also praised Lesotho as "a true model in delivering FOCAC outcomes," with new projects being completed or launched almost every month.
Limpho Tau, Lesotho's acting minister of foreign affairs and international relations, reaffirmed the country's unwavering commitment to the one-China principle, emphasizing that this stance reflects Lesotho's belief in sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the importance of international law.
Tau commended China as "a genuine and reliable partner" in Lesotho's sustainable development journey, highlighting its visible contributions in infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and cultural exchanges.
He expressed strong support for the China-proposed global initiatives on development, security, and civilization, noting that they "lay the foundation for a more inclusive, just, and balanced system of global governance."
Tau also endorsed the newly proposed Global Governance Initiative, noting that "China's call for improving the global governance architecture to amplify the voices of developing nations finds strong resonance in Lesotho."
The event was attended by hundreds of guests, including Speaker of the National Assembly Tlohang Sekhamane, as well as various government officials, politicians, diplomats, and representatives from the Chinese business community.
