China allocates 30 mln yuan to support disaster relief in Yunnan

BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission on Friday allocated 30 million yuan (about 4.21 million U.S. dollars) from the central budget to help Yunnan Province cope with the aftermath of severe flooding and geological disasters.

The funds will be directed toward emergency repairs of damaged roads, water conservancy facilities and other public-service infrastructure so that normal life and production can be restored as quickly as possible, the commission said.

Since mid-August, heavy rain has triggered widespread flooding and geological disasters across parts of Yunnan. The national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief on Friday activated a Level-IV emergency response for disaster relief in the province.
