Trending in China | Heavenly sounds of the Mongolian grasslands: the morin khuur

    (People's Daily App) 16:20, August 05, 2025

The morin khuur (or horsehead fiddle) is a traditional Mongolian bowed instrument named for its distinctive horsehead scroll. Known for its deep, resonant tones, it is commonly used both as an accompaniment and for solo performances of grassland folk songs, beautifully capturing the spirit of nomadic culture. Deeply rooted in Mongolian heritage—especially in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China—the morin khuur is gaining growing appreciation and attracting new players across the country.
