In Menghai county, Yunnan Province, thousands of Asian openbill storks perch on branches or hover with their wings among the woods, adorning the trees with a shimmering display of white feathers. The Asian openbill stork, an endangered species, was first recorded in China in 2006, and its population has steadily increased in recent years.
