By Morag Hobbs, Liu Ning (People's Daily Online)    08:57, November 05, 2018

Today, Nov. 5, marks the first day of the First China International Import Expo, which will welcome around 3,000 companies from 130 countries and regions here to the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai.

The opening ceremony, which kicks off this morning, will be attended by President Xi Jinping along with 18 other heads of state and government.

The Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum also kicks off this morning. With the theme of “spurring new vitality of global trade, creating an open and win-win scenario”, it will focus on new trends and changes in economic development at home and abroad, promoting economic globalisation and building an open world economy. The forum is made up of three parallel sessions, “Trade and Opening”, “Trade and Innovation” and “Trade and Investment”, with speeches from leaders of international organisations, entrepreneurs and academics.

The CIIE will run from Nov. 5-10 with a very clear message that China is open for business.
