

Maputo, May 15 - The 2018 Joint Conference of Confucius Institutes in Africa opened here on May 14th, hosts by Confucius Institutes Headquarter (Hanban), while it is organized by Eduardo Mondlane University and supported by Embassy of the P.R. China in Mozambique.
Doutor Jorge Oli?vio Penicela Nhanbiu,Minister of Science, Higher Education and Vocational Education of Mozambique said in his speech that Confucius Institute is an important part of Chinese education to spread Chinese culture worldwide.
“For the first time, Mozambique hosts a joint conference of the Confucius Institutes in Africa, marking an important stage of friendly cooperation between China and African countries, which is also an important milestone for education, culture and social exchanges between China and Africa,”he said.

The Minister further expressed gratitude that the Confucius Institute headquarters in China has built a language and cultural bridge for Chinese and Zambia language and culture communication.
The two-day conference has attracted directors of Confucius Institutes from various African countries as well as representatives of Chinese enterprises in Africa, including Headmaster Forum and Group Discussion.
According to figures, there are 54 Confucius Institutes and 30 Confucius Classrooms in 41 African countries. In 2017, Confucius Institute and Classroom in Africa had 149,171 registered students and held 2463 cultural activities with more than 840,000 participants.
