    Have you ever seen a child tied to a bamboo pole of five meters high--a folk custom in Xiangyang?

    It's a folk custom popularizing in Xianrendu, a small town in Laohekou city, Xiangyang. In the custom, small children are dressed up and raised high with bamboo poles to perform stories. As a folk art loved by the local people, it was identified as a non-material cultural heritage protection project by Xiangfan municipal government in 2006.

    The custom has a huge lineup, with more than 100 people involved in each performance. Firecrackers are set off and a deafening sound of gongs and drums can be heard. Small children are dressed up and raised up by person to perform stories.
