China has set up 32 national centers for clinical medical research, more than 60 large biobanks and databases, and 143 clinical units that can serve 7.06 million people.

This was reported by the Science and Technology Daily following a meeting on the establishment of the 32 national centers held in Beijing on July 22.

The national centers will focus on 11 areas, including for angiocardiopathy, malignant tumors, and respiratory system diseases.

Wang Zhigang, vice minister of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, said scientific and technology innovations will strengthen the national clinical medical research centers.

He added that the centers will also promote advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in medical institutions.

According to the report, China aims to build 100 national clinical research centers by the end of 2021 in order to form a well-developed clinical medical research innovation system.
