The Top 100 "Innovation & Entrepreneurship Districts in 2016" were unveiled. Fancheng District, Xiangyang was ranked 76th.

The list was jointly released by the China Small & Medium City Economic Development Committee, the Strategic Research Institute of Small & Medium City Development, the Research Group on Scientific Development Index of Small & Medium Cities and other entities.

By late September, 580 micro and small enterprises, 18 entrepreneurial demonstration bases and entrepreneurial parks, as well as three technology enterprise incubators and two maker spaces had been established in Fancheng this year.
