    By Li Yan ()    17:06, November 17, 2016

Police arrested three suspects and shut down five wild animal trafficking operations in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Nov. 16. Over 35,000 birds were recovered, some dead and some alive. Bodies of state-protected birds including the African grass owl and collared scops owl were found refrigerated. The local forestry department has taken charge of releasing the live birds. Most are chestnut buntings. An investigation is underway.
