A series of photos of an elderly man with a plastic barrel on his head have recently gone viral on Weibo. The photos may appear strange at first, but after learning the man's story, everyone who sees the photos is very moved.

The man's name is Yang Duxue, and he married his wife, Wan Qijia, 44 years ago. In 2004, Wan fainted due to her hypertension. Though the doctors saved her life, she was partially paralyzed and lost the ability to speak. Since then, Yang has been taking care of his wife all by himself.

Yang himself suffers from lumbar disc herniation. Every once in a while, he has to receive IV drips to ease the pain. Because he cannot leave Wan unattended, he invented a hands-free container that he uses to receive the necessary IV fluids. Yang punched holes in a plastic barrel, installed a hook from which to hang the IV bag, and places the barrel on his head. In this way, he is free to take care of his wife even when he must undergo IV treatments.

“I take her with me everywhere I go. She is my responsibility,” Yang smiled. “We are a married couple, and we will always be together, for better or for worse.”
