In recent years, Simao District of Pu'er City has stuck to the concept of "ecological and green development", pressed ahead with projects such as natural forest resources protection, afforestation and eco-migration, and rural drinking water source protection and construction, and cracked down on criminal acts such as excessive deforestation and damaging forests to reclaim land to achieve a forest coverage rate of 71.2 percent. Simao has been listed among "National Pilot Counties (Districts) for Ecological Civilization Demonstration" and "National Model Districts for Ecological Civilization", and won honorary titles such as "National Garden City" successively.
