Wu is a Shanghai-based driver for a cab-hailing app. Recently, he picked up a woman and drove her to her office. However, the woman did not immediately pay the taxi fare through the app on her phone; she did eventually pay, but the payment came a day late. Wu tried calling the woman several times, but no one answered. Wu then decided to hunt the woman down at her work. To Wu’s surprise, the HR manager of the company not only helped him to find the woman, he also fired her on the spot.

This story has become a hot topic in Shanghai HR circles. Some people think it was not fair for the girl to get fired for not paying a taxi fare, but others argue that honesty is essential in the workplace; her dishonesty could affect her performance at work. Many believe that the woman really intended to pay the fare but just forgot about it. They think it is unjust to fire her for such a minor mistake.

    What do you think?
