Tencent founder to donate 100 million company shares to charity
Ma Huateng, also known as Pony Ma, founder, president and chief executive officer of Tencent

Ma Huateng, also known as Pony Ma, founder and CEO of the Shenzhen-based Internet company Tencent, announced on Monday that he will donate 100 million company shares to a charity established by Tencent.

“After 10 years of exploration and participation in philanthropic activities, I increasingly feel that a better way of giving back to society is to do it over a longer period of time and in a more organized way,” Ma said in a statement.

The shares, which are worth more than 2 billion dollars, will be pumped into medical, education, environmental protection and other welfare projects in China's mainland. Increased funding for science and technology around the world is also on the list of priorities.
