Taiwan quake delays trains in SE China

    (Xinhua)    11:11, February 06, 2016

BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- A 6.7-magnitude earthquake that jolted Taiwan early on Saturday morning will delay some trains in southeast China as workers check for damage to a local railway.

Tremors were felt along a line connecting the cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou in Fujian Province on the mainland, China's rail network operator said. The line forms part of the Hangzhou-Shenzhen railway.

The China Railway Corporation said workers have launched an emergency response to examine the railway section.

It did not disclose if any damage had been caused to the railway.

The earthquake hit Kaohsiung of southern Taiwan at a depth of 15 km at 3:57 a.m. Beijing Time on Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The quake damaged several buildings, causing the collapse of at least one, trapping hundreds of residents, according to local media reports.
