During the Beijing Marathon on Monday, a contestant who had a cardiac arrest was saved by another runner Yang Dawen, who is a doctor from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.

After the first 38.5 kilometers, Yang found a male runner lying down near the Olympic Village area and he had already lost consciousness. Yang ran to him and checked his pulse, and found that the man already had no heartbeat.

"I am a doctor, of course I should do something at that moment," Yang said. He told volunteers to find emergency care medics and he and another runner took turns to perform CPR on the man. After doctors came to the scene, Yang left and continued his Marathon. At last he finished the whole course in 3 hours and 27 minutes.

"This is my second best record since 2013 in a dozens of Marathon I have participated in," Yang told journalists, adding that he was very depressed during the whole run and worried about that fainted man. He was relieved after he learned later the man had come back to life. "I happened to see that, it is no big deal, I just gave him a hand," said Yang.
