According to a report of New York Daily News, a California high school couple survived getting hit by lightning on Aug.6 because they were holding hands.

Dylan Corliss, 16, and Lexie Varga, 17, were walking on the street in Claremont in cloudy skies.

"Suddenly out of nowhere, we just felt like we were getting hit over the head and shoved to the ground with a big flash and explosion sound," Dylan said.

The lightning hit Dylan in the back of the head, and the electricity transferred through his arm into Lexie before exiting through her foot.

They felt "tingly" and "achy" for the rest of the day, and Lexie has a bruise on her foot. But they were otherwise alright.

A doctor told them their hand-holding dispersed the electricity, leaving them virtually unharmed.
