Things you may not know about kissing: Chinese lovers kissed each other 2000 years ago

    Email|Print

Lovers' kissing may be popular in the West. But the first kiss may have originated from the east. Here are some things that you may not know about kissing.

    China:

The stone figure in China's Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) proved that Chinese lovers kissed each other 2,000 years ago. In the Tang Dynasty (AD 618–690 & 705–907), kissing became a popular way for people to express love. A lot of poems and literature described the joy of love and kissing.

    India:

In the 6th century in India, "Kama Sutra" made a comprehensive description of the kiss. The kisses between lovers were categorized. It also told people how to respond to a kiss.

However, now kissing in public in New Delhi is considered to be an offense. In 1935, an offender could be fined 50 rupees (equivalent to about 1.2 USD). Now, the street kissing penalty is ten times that.

    Indonesia:

In many Islamic countries, for religious reasons, men and women cannot kiss in public. In Indonesia, people can get arrested for kissing in the street for more than five minutes.
