BTV launches media tour exploring the Silk Road

    Email|Print

BEIJING, June 4 (People's Daily Online)- On June 3, 2015, China Beijing TV Station (BTV) launched a TV coverage project -Silk Road: Ancient Secrets and Modern Prospects.

In the three months to come, reporters with BTV will travel through the nations and regions along the Silk Road, showing these areas’ historical background, contemporary outlook and cultural charm.

Recently, "I want to feel the whole world" became a catchphrase on the Internet, which embodies Chinese people’s desire to embrace the world. More than 2,000 years ago, Zhang Qian blazed the Silk Road and unveiled the cultural and trade exchanges between Asia and Europe. In the period between Tang dynasty and Song dynasty, China saw its economic center shifting to the southern part, resulting in the thriving trade along the Maritime Silk Road.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the proposal of building the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, also known as "One Belt and One Road", with other countries during his visit to Central Asia and ASEAN countries in 2013. The "One Belt and One Road" initiative endows the ancient Silk Road with the spirit of the times and promotes Pan-Asia cooperation and Asia-Europe cooperation.

In August 2014, People's Daily Online carried out a cross-border, all-media coverage of the New Silk Road, promoting the trade, cultural communication and people-to-people exchanges between China and other countries along the Silk Road.
