BEIJING, April 28 -- China's armed police have mobilized more than 5,000 members to quake zones in southwest Tibet Autonomous Region after a 8.1-magnitude quake shook Nepal Saturday, which also affected the southwestern part of Tibet.

They rescued more than 100 stranded people and transported more than 3,000 displaced residents to temporary settlements, according to a statement Tuesday.

In addition to deploying local police, around 450 members and 60 pieces of equipment had been called in from other parts of the nation to help restore traffic and assist the rescue and disaster relief efforts, it said.

The General Hospital of Armed Police Forces also sent 10 experienced medical officers to Nepal as part of China 's international rescue efforts.
