    China warns officials against holiday graft

    BEIJING, April 23 -- The disciplinary watchdog of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday warned officials against holiday-induced graft, as the May Day holiday and the Dragon Boat Festival are around the corner.

    Discipline inspectors at all levels should be on the look out for public funds being spent on banquets, travel and gift-giving, Huang Shuxian, deputy head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC, told a meeting.

    Huang stressed the accountability system in graft cases, whereby both violators and their supervisors should be held accountable.

    Undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance -- targets of the campaign, have not been uprooted yet, Huang said.

    Holidays usually see a rise of gift-giving, banquets, ceremonies, and other violations in China. The May Day holiday and the Dragon Boat Festival are 3-day national holidays in May and June. Enditem
