KAMPALA, Feb. 10 -- China and Uganda pledged Tuesday to further deepen bilateral cooperation in a comprehensive manner and advance bilateral ties.

The remarks were made during a meeting between Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and visiting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Entebbe, 40 km south of Uganda's capital Kampala.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relationship, said Yang, China-Uganda ties have enjoyed stable and healthy development. The fruitful cooperation in all areas benefits the two peoples and serves as an exemplar of South-South Cooperation, he added.

Noting that China is deepening its reform and Uganda is striving for building a prosperous and modern country, Yang said the two countries share similarities in their development strategy, thus providing an opportunity for each other.

China, he said, is willing to work with Uganda to implement the consensus of the leaders of two countries, enhance high-level exchanges and political mutual trust, and promote pragmatic cooperation.

Beijing is also ready to expand cultural exchanges with Kampala, strengthen the international coordination, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in a comprehensive manner, so as to continuously push forward bilateral relations, Yang added.

For his part, Museveni said Uganda values its deep-rooted friendship with China and expressed his thanks for the long-time support and help offered by China.

Uganda is willing to work with China to deepen the cooperation in all areas, promote Uganda's economic development, and achieve win-win results so as to lift the friendly relations and cooperation to a new level.

Uganda is the last leg of Yang's three-nation African visit which took him also to Algeria and Zimbabwe.
