BEIJING, Feb. 2-- Student profiles in primary and middle schools have gone digital, the Education Ministry announced on Monday.

The digital database will play an important role when students change schools or graduate and in keeping records of progress, the statement said.

School transfers can now be completed online, saving money and time for parents who previously had to complete the procedure in person.

Trials began on Jan. 10, 2014, with student data verified with the Public Security Ministry and the national demographic database to ensure accuracy.

The ministry has asked parents and students to double check their information.
