BEIJING, Jan. 14 -- Disciplinary inspection authorities of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday were urged to strengthen international cooperation in the hunt for fugitive officials and asset recovery.

Corrupt officials should be returned and brought to justice, said a communique of the fifth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), which closed Wednesday morning.

Disciplinary inspection organs should improve coordination mechanisms and strengthen judicial assistance and law-enforcement cooperation with certain countries and regions to break major cases, it said.

They were also asked to strengthen rules and systems, promote implementation of the Beijing Declaration on Fighting Corruption, adopted at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in November 2014, and take effective measures to prevent corrupt officials from fleeing.
