BEIJING, Jan. 8-- China has repatriated 680 fugitives suspected of committing economic crimes in its international manhunt, which began in July, the Ministry of Public Security said Thursday.

Of those seized, 390 turned themselves in, 208 were involved in economic crimes involving over 10 million yuan (1.6 million U.S. dollars), and 117 had been at large for over a decade with one having been on the run for 22 years.

The operation of "Fox Hunt 2014", running from July to Dec. 31 to "block the last route of retreat" for corrupt officials after crackdowns, have limited the space for abuse of power, according to the ministry.

The fugitives were seized in 69 countries and regions, the ministry said, adding that over 70 police teams had been sent overseas as part of the operation.
