    "The Taking of Tiger Mountain" rules China's box office

    BEIJING, Jan. 6 -- Acclaimed Hong Kong director Tsui Hark's "The Taking of Tiger Mountain" led China's box office in the week ending Jan. 4 after grossing 368 million yuan (about 59.1 million U.S. dollars).

    The 3D war film, which debuted on Dec. 23 and stars Tony Leung Ka Fai, has so far brought a total box office earning of 693.6 million yuan.

    "Love on the Cloud," a domestic rom-com directed by Changwei Gu, earned 120 million yuan, China Film News reported Tuesday. Its total box office earnings have hit 267 million yuan since its debut on the Christmas Eve.

    Domestic animation and comedy "One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes" came in third by taking in 85.7 million yuan in the week. The film debuted on Dec. 31.

    The fourth spot went to reputed director Jiang Wen's "Gone with the Bullets" which grossed 41.5 million yuan in the week. Its total box office stood at 513.2 million yuan since its debut on Dec. 18.

    Rounding out the top-five list was "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb." The third movie in the Ben Stiller franchise pulled in about 29.6 million yuan on the opening day of Jan. 4.
